So! Let's start this thread off... Are there any Plasma Cosmologists in the audience tonight?

Or we could talk about how pretty Saturn is. :)

It feels like they announce some newly found planet that could potentially support life every few months, and they're gonna keep doing this until I die.

And the sequel song, which isn't as catchy, but more accurate.

I knew you'd be in here. The second I saw "Astronomy Thread", I put my life on the line that you were here.~

    ---

Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, has oceans on it.

There's a fun tidbit for today.

One of saturn's moons, Enceladus, has water on it as well, but more curiously, spits it out in to one of saturn's outer rings in the form of a giant geyser

Ah man, I remember reading this article about habitable planets and they said there was this one planet that was habitable only along its vertical axis. The planet's rotation had stopped so it was burning on one side and frozen (and dark) on the other. And along the habitable line they theorize that the plant life there is black because the skies are red and that's how the light would reflect off the surface.

I need to look it up but I will post it.

This isn't purely astronomical, but it is, I think, a very, very neat website, and certainly relevant if you scroll out instead of in:

Io is also pretty cool as moons go.

Also, the Opportunity Rover was launched ten years ago tomorrow and has been rolling around on Mars for over nine years now. Considering that it was only supposed to last three months, that's pretty impressive. Here's some of what it's been up to those nine years and a half.

    Complicating things since 2009.

I like mars well enough but it's soooo... dull

it'd be interesting if we could somehow kick start it's magnetosphere and kinda bring it back to life

I like Enceladus. Especially because of its ice Geysers.

Mimas looking like the Death Star never fails to amuse me.

When I have my own place I want to decorate some of the walls with posters of certain celestial nebulae and such. I've liked looking at that stuff ever since I was a little kid.

Even though Pluto is no longer a planet, I am looking forward to NASA's mission, New Horizons to Pluto and its three moons. The probe should make its closest approach in July of 2015. Here is the link: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/ne...ain/index.html

That probe's gonna be so disappointed when it reaches Pluto and discovers that it's no longer a planet.
