They did mention in one of the directs that they were questioning the idea of Zelda being a game you played alone. What if coop with Link and Zelda is in the game?

I'd rather play as Zelda than a female Link tbh.

This probably varies to each person, but Link already has established traits that make him, him (to me at least.) He already has an identity and is his own character. Making female would take a while to get used to for some reason. But then again, making Spiderman black or asian or latino wouldn't be a problem to me, so I should probably get over it if they make Link a female. But it would still feel weird to me for some reason, and I hate that.

I personally can't think of a single trait that would make Link/Toon Link specifically male, aside from traits unique to each game for story-telling purposes.

Added to the fact that you usually name the character, which means the idea is you're putting yourself in the shoes of this character. If girl players have had to deal with playing as a male character that represents them, I don't see why male players must cause a ruckus about having to use a female character to represent them.

I for one would find female Link really refreshing and it could put a really neat spin on the same old hero tale.

ummm since when was it even confirmed that the protagonist in this game is female anyway? Just want to make sure I'm on the right page here.

It hasn't, but people all over the internet have complained about it anyway. Like complaints about how Link looks too "girly."

At least it's not to the same level as the Cat-Eye Link/Celda complaints back when Wind Waker was revealed.
Dude, Wii U really does feel like the Gamecube 2.0

Nothing's confirmed, Link's model in this game just looks more effeminate (or bishie, if you prefer) than usual and people are freaking out about it. And now even more speculation is sparking because that's supposedly not even Link in the trailer according to some Nintendo devs.

If it does turn out to be a chick, I hope it's just some new character or whatever. I'd honestly hate for Link to get the gender-swap treatment. It's just not necessary and I'd appreciate it so much more if it was a brand new female character with her own personality rather than Link with tits.

Of course now that there's this anticipation and rumor for a new female character/fem link, hundreds will be dissapointed when it turns out to be something completely different, like link's brother/cousin/evil clone/whatever.

It's the Legend of Zelda, a story that can go through infinite variations with the core story being a hero in green appears and saves the world.
I don't see how gender makes any difference to that, it's only cosmetic. The game most likely won't have the writing depth(and neither should it) to have gender be even a point there.

On principle everyone can feel the way they want but also on principle gender of any of these characters should have 0 influence on your enjoyment of the game. Link's character doesn't hinge upon being male and neither does Zelda's character hinge upon being female.

And then there's also this side of me that rather supports the option of choice on this matter for children. Wasn't there this dad that reprogrammed a Zelda game to have Link be female? For people that young that still feel strongly about the need to identify with what they're seeing on screen I support that. I don't want that to be a barrier to entry for anyone young. As an adult though I think you're weird if you feel so strongly about characters that loosely defined.

Me personally won't care either way about the result since it neither adds or substracts anything for me. It's just that I'm rather sad thinking about the reason of why people would feel it would substract anything. And don't get me wrong I'm not implying everyone that feels that way has some misogyny issues it may just be you don't like change, but even that is somewhat sad as an adult.
I can feel more at ease with the reason that this would add anything. "Oh this is new" is a sentiment that doesn't feel like it has any detriment to it.

While most things of the game wouldn't be affected by gender, one of the staples of link is that he builds up a harem as the game goes on. Think on how would you feel if Danuria, Groose, Osfala, Ralph are atracted to you... hmm that could be hilarious.

If this was a Female Link game, would you rather to have Zelda in it, or without her, or with a male counterpart? What about Gannon or a new enemy?

I think that we are gearing up to dissapointment though, I don't think that Anouma has read about the father who changed Link into a girl for his daughter or other similar news, to inspre him into making this change.

You just said it, for the story gender changes nothing. So why bother changing Link's original gender if it doesn't do anything to change the core of what Legend of Zelda has been about for years? So while it's definitely a possibilty when you consider how things work in the LoZ timeline, it's a possibility that changes virtually nothing storywise.

Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf will still be the triforce trifecta. The characters will still be who they've always been for years. Hyrule will more than likely be the main setting. And the hero of legend will save the day in the end. Gender has no impact on any of this, so why do it? To pander to the fans of gender-swapped characters? Um sure, if they wanna do that go ahead, that's one hell of a niche appeal though.

Now, for the player gender can matter a whole hell of a lot. Female fans of LoZ can now have a female protaganist to identify and connect with instead of being forced to play as a dude like most games. But rather than taking Link, an already exisiting character that's been set as a male for more than a decade, and chopping off his dick and balls, why not just make a new female character to play as, completely seperate from Link in looks and his established character.

Or better yet, why not just have Zelda kick ass for once? She already exists in the universe and her character is already set as a strong female leader so it wouldn't be weird in the slightest to see her wrecking shit left and right. Plus, it'd make a strong positive impact on the story AND the experience of the gamer while a femlink would only be impactful for any gamer who wishes to play as a girl.

In the end, even though I don't really want it I suppose fem link wouldn't bug me too much. The massive and constant backlash that's likely to come from it, I think that's what turns me off from the idea more than anything else.

I prefer Link just stay male but be significantly androgynous enough that once can easily imagine him as female if one so chose.

Honestly, is it that hard to imagine why it could be cool to have the formula rewritten to feature a strong female lead? You could even have a lot of fun subverting LoZ tropes. Also it's not like every Zelda game is about the Triforce trifecta.

It's not hard for me at all. I'd love for a Zelda game to actually feature Zelda or maybe Impa and her journey, her struggles, rather than Link. I've wanted that for years in fact. A gender-swapped Link, though? I can't say I've wanted that for years. I'm just not into that niche, sorry.

Like I said before though, if they did do it, I'd probably just get used to it after a while. I don't have much faith other people will however.
