If that were the case season two of Saiki K. would have been dubbed by now (or a least the first half of it anyway). Although that one is an interesting case Funimation dubbed and released season one on DVD, but Netflix was somehow able to get the streaming rights to it, making it one of the few Funimation dubs they have on their service alongside Soul Eater and stuff they've dubbed but was later taken back by other companies (such as Aniplex USA).

I wonder if a subtitled release would be more viable in countries that never got the simulcast.
Funimation has released sub only DVDs, but most of those were to gauge their audience to see if they warranted a dub. I think the only title they released subbed only (albeit only under their SAVE banner) was Oniai.

I’d put more stock in the Funimation representative that told someone it’ll come in Fall than a voice actor who has “some connections in the industry.”

Also, there are hundreds of people that comment on their Facebook requesting more dubbed episodes all the time. And Funimation has two lines of releases (voyages and collections), which they don’t do with shows that do poorly (not counting their discounted, cheap line of stuff).

--- Update From New Post Merge ---

Everyone over at Funimation loves the property. I’d be surprised if they dropped it. Has anyone grilled OPP lately?
Maybe I'm going into conspiracy theory territory with this, but I get the feeling that maybe to get around NDA's that might be in place, Funimation might have some of their non-VA employees that work on show pose as average Joe Consumer on their forums. As a way of telling fans of their properties that they're still working on them, but other stuff is also taking up their time (simuldubs) and other outside forces (Toei) are holding up the process. One thing I've seen on their forums posted by other users is that Toei wanted Funi to prioritize Dragon Ball Super over One Piece, because it's better known in North America.

Also Funi rarely comes out and says they're no longer dubbing a series, I think the only time they've actually done that was for Big Wind Up.

Yeah. No offense to the person reporting it, but the information posted about the cancellation seemed very sketchy. For Funimation ever to come out and announce a cancellation, let alone “soon,” is so very unlike them. And despite this long hiatus, I’m not seeing the reasoning yet to cancel. It wasn’t doing THAT bad so far as we know, and it’s a big property for them.

I certainly don't blame you for feeling this way. It really does sound incredibly farfetched and unorthodox.

I have no reason to doubt my friend, but from what I know the person he heard it from has no reason to lie either.

We'll see what happens. At the end of the day I'm with you guys and hope it isn't true either.

And who is “the person he heard it from”?

I just don't see this being legit (with the greatest of respect to the sources) Funimation have started up a podcast within the last month or so, created a twitter account and are counting down until the 20th Anniversary. If they were abandoning the dub, then why go to all this effort to get people watching dub episodes (at least 300 of them) doesn't add up.

Exactly. I’m just not seeing any evidence except the hiatus to support full-on cancellation, and the hiatus could be explained by a million reasons, many of which we’ve encountered in past long hiatuses.

Colleen certainly doesn't appear to be abandoning the dub - her twitter account is still One Piece centric. Either that, or she didn't get the memo.

I don't know about the future movies, specials, or the bits of Punk Hazard, only that they're gonna stop because it simply isn't profitable anymore. Apparently this decision was made very recently and that an announcement should be soon.

This sucks, but at least they dubbed the best parts of the anime already.
No offense or anything personal to you, Mikey, but you rarely post in this thread and now out of the blue, you're sharing a rumor from a friend who claims to have connections and he was told by someone in the voice acting industry. I don't believe a single thing about that when I take into consideration the things Funi has done recently with One Piece on their social platforms. I'm frustrated about the lack of communication for the dub just like everyone else.
With that said, rumors like this can be harmful when they spread within the community because then we're stuck with the blind leading the blind.

Sorry, but I don't just buy into random internet rumors, especially when I believe them to be on shaky ground. This all seems to hinge solely on the idea that this hiatus is indicative of cancellation. Now I can see why this all has people concerned, but I think solely believing it based on that ignores other factors which seem to make his rumor seem suspect:

    1. No offense Mikey, but I don't know you or your "source" well enough to just take you at your word that this is any sort of reliable information. And even if I did believe your friend has "insider information", I have no clue how that person came about learning this info. For all I know your friend was somehow sold a load of bunk; it wouldn't be the first time I've seen a voice actor who supposedly knows things, only to find out there wasn't really any truth to it. When what we’re dealing with here is a “source of a source of a source” with vague details and not a direct “source” it makes it especially hard to believe the legitimacy of it all. Also “they have no reason to lie” is not enough; they could technically not be lying, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the info they heard couldn’t still be false.

    2. The timing of this rumor really seems suspect. If I heard this rumor earlier in the year or even next year I might have bought into it at least a little. But supposedly we're getting an announcement in the near future? Seems like a really odd thing to do when they have been recently promoting One Piece quite a bit for its anniversary. And if it was only the sub they were promoting maybe I'd buy that, but the dub still continues to get promotion alongside it. I have a hard time believing this is the type of announcement they would make anytime soon and not at least wait until next year. The only way this makes sense to me is if they're planning on promoting Punk Hazard as their "final dub season". Speaking of which...

    3. Punk Hazard is really the big sticking point here that makes rumors like these hard to believe. This is something we know is happening; its information we’ve gotten not through second-hand means, but through the people actually working on the season itself. So why announce cancellation when this is something they have already dubbed and would want to make some money back on it by releasing it? Like I said before, this could involve them advertising it as their "final dub season", but is that really the most sensible thing to do? With the subs having way more episodes currently available is it really wise to announce you're ending the dub? If anything it could potentially turn people off from purchasing Punk Hazard at all because "why bother, if its ending anyway might as well just stick with subs". I get the argument “the DVDs aren’t selling well”, but why potentially do something to damage the remaining sales even further? Again, this seems like the type of announcement you'd want to wait a while on, not announce sometime soon...

    4. This is really something they are going to make a formal announcement about? Past experience (especially in regards to One Piece) tells me that this is not something we'd hear a direct announcement about (more likely something that would be told to us by the voice cast or directors or something, several months after the fact)

    5. This was a decision they made...recently? What exactly would have happened recently that would have convinced them to halt production? Season 9 finished a year ago and all we've gotten since are a few collections and a few specials (neither of which I see being huge enough factors to determine overall selling power). Why would low sales only be a problem now? Why didn’t this info come out earlier? Again, timing of this just seems all wrong

I mean, if this is really true then so be it, but I'm not going to just go along with any rumor I hear spread online. Heck, I didn't even entirely believe the previous rumor about the fall release; the only reason I entertained it is that the timeframe seemed to make sense and he at least gave a decently believable source for where he could have got that information.

FUNimation cancelling the One Piece dub/home releases during their big celebration of the anime's 20th anniversary would be pretty low.

Then again, we don't know what sort of behind the scenes changes are taking place now that Sony has majority stake in the company, and Gen is leaving (or left already). One Piece may be performing well enough for FUNi, but not for Sony.

No offense taken, guys. Thanks for your responses. I figured I would share it here with you all in the off chance it could be correct. Like I said we'll see what happens, but hopefully it isn't true.

Unfortunately I can't say who it is, man. This is all pretty much what my friend suggested I could say here.

I have no idea what's going on with Sony, Funi or Toei. I do know that One Piece is still a valuable property for Funimation and I doubt they would willingfully cease dubbing the anime if they had the say-so.

According to Italian Wikipedia, they are up to 578, and the Punk Hazard Arc is due to air this year. Same as us basically.

Anyone been listening to the One Piece at a time Podcast? I’ve been having a lot of fun listening! It’s always nice to hear a newbie’s thoughts on the series.

Plus they read the comment I made to one of their questions on this week’s episode!

If I'm not mistaken, don't the solicitations go up on the 15th? I've been on and off with keeping up with it for a bit but it's the 16th and nothing yet

It is usually the 15th. Every now and again they can be a day or two late, they most likely will be up by the end of the day.

They are up, and sadly (as predicted) no Season 10.
