Manafort plea deal developing today. Looks like Mueller's doing an equivalent to a speaking indictment again to get pretty granular on what was going on. Reeaaallly doubt he's cooperating, still.

Manafort's deal includes forfeiting 46 million. He just paid for double the investigation! Net profit!

....however that's only half of Trump's golf trips.

I can't wait for the Trump tweets about how he barely knows the guy.

So the investigation is good to continue through the next year, yeah?

Fun sidenote: through asset forfeiture in the Manafort plea, Mueller's already paid off his investigation with about a year's worth to spare.

Cant wait for the republicans to have another screaming fit at Mueller for daring to challenge their authority as their eyes bulge and their faces sweat.

    Day 603: Full cooperation.

1/ Paul Manafort pleaded guilty to conspiracy and agreed to fully cooperate with Robert Mueller. While the details about what kind of information Manafort agreed to provide the special counsel remain unclear, a judge asked Manafort, "You understand that you are agreeing to cooperate fully and truly" in the agreement? To which Manafort replied, "I do." Manafort also agreed to forfeit multiple properties and bank accounts, participate in interviews, provide documents, and testify. 2/ Jared Kushner defended the eviction of the Palestine Liberation Organization from its Washington offices by insisting that punishing Palestinians would not affect the chances of a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine. "There were too many false realities that were created — that people worship — that I think needed to be changed," Kushner said during an interview. "All we’re doing is dealing with things as we see them and not being scared out of doing the right thing. I think, as a result, you have a much higher chance of actually achieving a real peace." 3/ The secret letter about Brett Kavanaugh that Sen. Feinstein shared with federal investigators yesterday charges that a teenage Kavanaugh and a male friend trapped a teenage girl in a bedroom during a party and tried to assault her. According to the letter, Kavanaugh had been drinking at a party when he and his friend took the girl into a bedroom. Kavanaugh allegedly got on top of the girl and put his hand over her mouth as the music was turned up. The woman was reportedly able to exit the room before anything else happened. Kavanaugh denied the allegation. "I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation," he said in a statement. "I did not do this back in high school or at any time." 4/ Retired Adm. Bill McRaven resigned from the Pentagon's Defense Innovation Board late last month, days after criticizing Trump for revoking John Brennan's security clearance. "I can confirm that Admiral (ret) William H. McRaven resigned from the Defense Innovation Board, effective August 20, 2018," said a Pentagon spokesperson. "The Department appreciates his service and contribution on the board." (ABC News)

In a more personal story, the GOP representative in my district is actually getting a bit of national news time, for once. Starting at 4:40, GOP Rep. Chris Smith gets roasted for his awkward response on gay rights and adoption. I only hope this leads to something more. The guy's had his seat since 1981, and even now is considered safe this election season. I'd love to see that change.

So then, this means this guy is still good to apply as a justice in Arkansas.

Though saying that, this sadly doesn't mean he won't be approved. Not with the way the GOP are now, and with Thomas being an active judge.

I can already see the argument being made that, true or not, Kavanaugh was a teenager then.

while thinking of Kavanaugh and the fact that the modern GOP has a tendency to try and jam through candidates for important public office with no procedure thus compacting months of sturm and drang in a week-and-a-half, I was struck yet again by one of those questions that come to me randomly every other week or so:

Whatever happened to Ronny Jackson and his multiple inquiries?

    Day 606: Full steam ahead.

1/ The author of the confidential letter accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct when he was in high school has come forward to tell her story. Christine Blasey Ford is a 51-year-old research psychologist in northern California who says Kavanaugh and a friend corralled her into a bedroom in the early 1980s and attempted to sexually assault her. Ford says Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed, groped her over her clothes and attempted to remove her bathing suit. When she tried to scream, she says Kavanaugh put his hand over her mouth. "I thought he might inadvertently kill me," Ford said. "He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing." Ford said she felt a "civic responsibility" to speak out about the Supreme Court nominee. (Washington Post) / CBS News)

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/christi...shington-post/

Kavanaugh says he is willing to answer questions under oath about Ford's allegations of sexual misconduct against him. Both Kavanaugh and Ford have said they would be willing to testify to Congress about the alleged incident. (CNN)

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/17/polit...ony/index.html
2/ Arizona GOP Sen. Jeff Flake wants to delay the Senate's vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation until Ford has a chance to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. "I've made it clear that I'm not comfortable moving ahead with the vote on Thursday if we have not heard her side of the story or explored this further," Flake said. Flake is part of the GOP's one-vote majority over the Democrats on the committee. "For me," Flake said, "we can't vote until we hear more." (CBS News / Politico)

    https://www.politico.com/story/2018/...blicans-825855

3/ Trump has tried to normalize the type of behavior described in Ford's allegations and has told people close to him that he believes there is a conspiracy by Democrats to derail Kavanaugh's nomination process. A senior White House aide says things are still "full steam ahead" for Kavanaugh, and that there is very little chance that Ford's accusations will change Trump's mind when it comes to Kavanaugh's viability as the next Supreme Court justice. (Daily Beast)

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-...ugh-nomination

4/ The amount of money that has returned to the U.S. as a result of Trump's massive tax cuts is only 3.5 percent of what Trump predicted. Trump predicted that by ending the practice of taxing U.S. companies when they brought home foreign profits, "Over $4 [trillion], but close to $5 trillion, will be brought back into our country." But the latest analysis shows that just $143 billion has been repatriated. Companies recently announced plans to repatriate another $37 billion. Two-thirds of the repatriated money so far has come from just two companies: networking giant Cisco Systems and a drug company called Gilead Sciences. (Daily Beast / Wall Street Journal)

5/ Ted Cruz's Senatorial campaign in Texas sent hundreds of thousands of donation mailers that are disguised to look like official court summons. The outside of the envelopes read "SUMMONS ENCLOSED- OPEN IMMEDIATELY" in large black print, or include a return address that reads "official county summons." Inside, the envelope contains a donation form for the Cruz campaign. These kind of mailers are not illegal as long as they contain a clear disclaimer that indicates who paid for the communication. I'm assuming my current congressman, Lee Zeldin, is gleeful at this "somehow" invalidating the multiple guilty pleas from Trump associates of their conspiring with Russia.

In better news, our hopeful Dem congressman to-be, Perry Gershon, just got an endorsement from Elizabeth Warren.

Perry asked me to help out on a Zeldin appearance at my college, which was going to be a big anti-immigrant conference with the local DA, police chief, and other high officials. While they were stating it would be focused on MS-13, there was no official plans to discuss the gang, but rather tackle the problem of illegal immigrants as a whole. Luckily thanks to the DA and others backing out, it fizzled out. Though, Zeldin still wouldn't allow anyone non-invited to enter the building of my college he was in.
