that has been explained ton of times by Count(Haven't see him in a while now that I think of him), it refered to the Grand Fleet.

Now, for Wano-kunians, all of them currently introduced are an absolute no.
Witching hour boy turning out to be an actual 'boy' would also erase him giving the no child policy, and we could link Komazo to Kawamatsu but there's also still no info of Denjirou whom could easily be BoneSpitter and get outed as well.
besides those, Carrot and the probable come back of Pudding are up to be argued but neither has that much big chances as of this point.

so yeah things aren't looking that nice at all for a supposed 11th crewmate in Wano and the Worst Gens taking up the spotlight just makes it even less likely.

I think Oda can differentiate between crew and fleet

That´s where the misunderstood started, Oda never said 'crewmates' apparently.

    Luffy does, not Oda.

The fact that it has been said 20 years ago is exactly why it is to take with caution. One Piece has changed in 20 years. Oda has a lot of trouble managing the current number of strawhats. So should he lessens his strorytelling quality just because luffy said a random number 20 years ago ?
We know what has become of the 5 flying devil fruits of Pell for example.

He did a recent interview last year where he made it clear that the 10 crewmate thing is still on his mind. Whatever happens in the end regarding the final count, it isn't this thing he's long forgotten about.

Koby will become the last member. Although he has the dream of becoming an admiral, his role model Garp always rejected this offer. The reverie is not going to end well for some characters. Kuma will die and Koby gets its fruit.

Anyone using the databooks or anything outside of the One Piece manga as the source or confirmation for certain things really shouldn't be taken seriously.

He also said that he has not in mind the complete scenario so he is still reflecting. I understand the 10 number is not forgotten and he certainly knows the importance some fans have into it.
That say, I'm certainly not taking the Vivre Card information has definitive. If a new member joins the crew he can have number 10bis for all I care.

Hey, the databooks said Sabo was dead, so he's clearly dead!

Even though it was obvious in story he wasn't, the databooks said he was!

Coming in late to the prior discussion, but another reason this thread is going slow might be that becoming a crewmember doesn't hold the same character-clout it it once did. In some cases it even seems like a sort of downgrade (*side eyes Usopp*)

We do? Which other ones contributed to the total, I'm totally blanking since some were technically able to fly but not because of the DF, like that bird that ate a horse fruit in Skypiea (not that the world at large would be aware of that anyway). Does Buffalo from the Doflamingo family count as one of them?

I think it's more that nobody's been slap-you-in-the-face-obvious as a shoe-in since Franky and Brook. It's just hard to defend anyone who hasn't had that sort of WOW! factor.

That would be a major betrayal of character by Oda after all his build-up.

It's like if Naruto refused to be Hokage because his role model Jiraya rejected the offer.

Jinbe was in fact that obvious, go back to the very earliest theories and reasonings put forward on him (including being name dropped 10 years in advance) but Oda obviously handled him in a way that made it unclear. But the side defending him was pretty solid from early on, in some cases before he even appeared on camera.

I think had Jinbe looked like a lean token badass, or even just more like he looked in his flashback with the slicked back spiky hair and thinner goatee, there would have been less debate about him... but instead he was a fat, weird looking dude with a very toned down personality.

ANd people argued against Franky and Brook at the time. Franky because he was TOO weird, (compared to Paulie...) and Brook because it was so sudden after Franky and seemed like a Red herring. "If he's the next guy why has he gone missing for 15 chapters?" being the biggie at the time, and the Laboon reveal having not happened yet..

uh, I never said the opposite, but in real life interviews, the usage of the word 'nakamas' by Eiichiro Oda is not the same as Luffy uses it in the series.

There is no such thing as "it was already clarified he was talking about the Grand Fleet". That's the kind of thing that starts in the fandom as a possible explanation and then evolves into some sort of fact based solely on repetition and imposition.

"Maybe when he said that he was talking about the Grand Fleet..." -> "Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was talking about the Grand Fleet" -> "He was talking about the Grand Fleet, move on" -> "Seriously? We all know for a long time that was about the Grand Fleet!"

The logic just keeps moving along that line despite never actually getting any sort of actual support, just airs of fact as people just keep spreading it without questioning.
Oda could be talking about the GF, or not. We don't know. Anyone stating their stance on this matter as a fact is being disingenuous.

As for the word "nakama", the interview was not even in japanese. Here is the original: https://www.chinatimes.com/newspaper...3000880-260102

The line in question (in case anyone knows chinese and wants to give it a try):
    且海賊團成員還沒到齊喔,還會陸續出現!

But what does it mean to you guys that a NN is potentially not being introduced in Wano?
next arc?, solidifies Carrot's case? susbscribe to Sunny vs San Juan?
