To go a bit off topic....whats with manga charchters being powered by Coke? So far Franky from OP and Don Patch from Bobobo-Bo-Bo-Bobo drink it to get their energy. All I ask is...why? Oh, and the DBZ chapter is the one where Cell is destroying the islands to lure #18 out.Originally posted by Battle Franky@Feb 15 2005, 04:22 PM
Coke revives Franky when he's all tapped out.

Odachii professes to be a big fan of Tarantino. Well, Pulp Fiction. I think Mia Wallace inspired the birth of Nico Robin.
Plus Sanji's "Mr. Prince" is very Reservoir Dogs. :D
I think some storylines have been used for the arcs too. Like 'The Boy who Cried Wolf' and 'Romeo and Juliet' make up the Kuro arc. Although it is difficult to figure out the others...

since my playlist is shoving aerosmith in my ears right now, i remembered that doesn't chu look like steven tyler. i once saw this clip of him in television and almost tipped over because he actually went and said 'chu chu'.
I'm glad someone finally cleared that up, and it makes perfect sense.Originally posted by Yumi@Mar 7 2005, 07:23 PM

Yeah, and in an interview Oda says he liked how the characters in Reservoir Dogs walked around wearing business suits. So, besides the Sanji/Mr. Prince thing, it could also fit with CP9 maybe? (At least the thing about being a group who wear business suits anyway...since Oda expressed in the interview that he thought it was cool)
Guitarist from Shinedown = Lucci
Edit: It's bad quality because it's a screenshot off the simple man video out of windows media player after I turned the hardware accelerator down all the way....wow....I kinda sounded like I know wtf I'm talking about.
Oda's inspirations:
pimps and hoes-Robin, Croc, etc
the 80's and 70's (major fashion disasters)-Tashigi, Jango, etc
...and titanic (I'm the king of the world!)not the simularities. ( Going to become the pirate king)
Just kidding :P
The only thing that remains i don't get is where did oda get the idea to give zorosideburns???
i know! i totally saw that when i first laid eyes on the CP9 group looming over Iceberg. :) odachii's had quite a knack for pulling off a Reservoir Dog kinda feel when it comes to groups like CP9 or even the head officers of Baroque Works...probably where he picked up handles like "Mr." 1, 2, 3, etc..."Ms" Doublefinger, Valentine, All Sunday...Originally posted by Captain Kuro@Mar 14 2005, 11:15 AM

personally, i love tarantino's films too, and i've always loved mia wallace. some of that fondness probably spilled over to Robin. :)
When the CP9 were looming over it kinda reminded me of kill bill and resevoir dogs combined.Come to think of it....this ark does have a tarantino swing to it.The whole story here, story there, and in the end this will all make scence just like a tarantino film. What would be interesting if oda started the next arc at the end.Than in the following chapter it started from the beginning.

Dunno if this has been posted before but Ace's design was heavily infulenced by Stevie Ray Vaughn

Kick ass avatar dude. I think Oda has many insperations from America. Hell even the design style is friendly to non-anime watching people. They wouldn't know it's an anime if someone didn't tell them.
i was just watching some re-runs of CSI Las Vegas and it hit me; Lady Heather, the enigmatic but charming woman who runs a house of dominion, played by Melinda Clarke, who is one of the best recurring characters in the entire series, reminds me so much of Robin.
odds that odachii wasn't really influenced by this, since i think Robin came first, so it's just a very happy coincidence, but wow. she has the same air of mystery, authority, wisdom and class...
anyone else remember this episode? i was looking for a better manga pic of Robin, but I guess this one is okay. what do you think?
-wouldn't mind Robin as a dominatrix at all-
Uma Thurman is Nico Robin.

yup, i know. ^^ which is why i've always loved mia wallace and robin. but it was just kinda cool to see some similarities between Robin and Lady Heather...Originally posted by MB.@Mar 22 2005, 09:32 PM

I have a feeling that Doflomingo was infulenced by Elton John somehow (cause that glasses and the frilly outfit kinda remind me of him)... but that's just feeling I have.
